Ottawa Senators weekly skill development programs to see many enhancements this season

It’s that time of year – sandals are being exchanged for boots, winter tires are going on vehicles, and the hockey season is kicking off in full swing! This season, Capital Sports Management Inc. (CSMI) is excited to announce many improvements and additions to the Ottawa Senators weekly skill development programs.

The Performance & Power Skating program is introducing the inclusion of a qualified figure skating instructor at all sessions. The instructors will teach young skaters the fundamental components of a great skating stride including developing power, efficient technique, superior balance, and how to properly use all four edges of the skate blade. The Performance & Power Skating program is open to seven - 14 year olds at the Bell Sensplex and Richcraft Sensplex.

New to the lineup this year is the IP Fundamental Skills program. This program is dedicated to teaching beginners, ages four to six years old, the foundational skills needed by all hockey players. The sessions include skating drills that emphasize forward and backward strides, starts and stops, crossovers, and tight turns. Over the course of the program participants will also learn the key concepts of passing, shooting, and puck control.

There’s something new for adults too! Morning and evening adult skill development sessions will now be incorporating a “Practice & Play” format.  Each session will start with drills geared to improving key hockey skills before ending with a controlled scrimmage with instructors stopping play to illustrate key teaching points.

Participants can also expect an additional on-ice instructor at most youth weekly skills programs, further improving the instructor-to-participant ratio and ensuring world-class development for all skaters.

Whether you are interested in learning the basics, improving your game, or looking for specialized elite training, there is an Ottawa Senators Hockey Program tailored to fill your needs. Most programs are eight-week sessions available in the west end at the Bell Sensplex and the east end at the Richcraft Sensplex. With over ten years of experience, CSMI is an industry leader in hockey skill development and the largest provider of private youth hockey programs in Ottawa. The Ottawa Senators Hockey Programs see roughly 9,000 participants per year – sign up today and you can be one of them!
