The Ottawa Senators Summer Hockey Camps are excited to launch our Angling and Body Positioning camp for the second straight Summer! This camp is intended to build on players hockey IQ away from the puck in addition with teaching strategies and techniques to better enhance a players ability to regain possession of the puck. This program is open to recreational players and competitive players (sessions will be separate).

Skill Level RequirementsThis Competitive version of this camp is restricted to Competitive players ONLY. Participants must have played on a Hockey Canada sanctioned competitive team in the 2024-2025 minor hockey season. Unless approved by a Ottawa Senators Hockey programs employee, registrants not adhering to the skill requirement may be screened out of the program

The Angling and Body Positioning Camp will take place over the course of a week and will focus on the following during each day…
 
  • Day 1
    • The skating routes required for angling to keep the opponent to the outside of the dots when defending against the rush
    • Stick positioning required to deter opponent access the middle of ice inside the dots
    • Learning physical leverage as a fundamental skill that is used to make quick decisions and maintain proper body positioning relative to the opposing puck carrier
  • Day 2
    • Skating routes required for angling in tight area situations such as corners or when defending below the goal line
    • Learning how to manipulate the puck carrier to go where the checker wants them to go in tight areas
    • Angling used in forechecking situations
  • Day 3
    • Stick lifts from tracking behind an opponent
    • Stick lifts when pinning an opponent
    • “Stick on Puck” concept to always watch opponents’ body but always using peripheral vision to always mirror the checker’s stick to opposing puck carrier’s stick who has the puck
  • Day 4
    • The sequence after the checker has established proper angling and stick positioning, which is acceleration, contact and containment, which achieves the goal of separating the man from the puck and get possession back
    • Bumping skills using the body to separate the opponent from the puck
    • Learning how to check in a safe and effective manner
  • Day 5
    • Players will implement all of the skills and strategies learned over the week and apply them to an assortment of situational small area games 

Please note that we will have at least one bilingual instructor with each camp group at the Richcraft Sensplex to accommodate all participants.
