Holiday Hockey Camps 

Make this holiday season memorable with the Ottawa Senators Holiday Hockey Camps!

Building on the success of our 2024 Ottawa Senators Summer Hockey Camps, our team is excited to announce our 2024 Holiday Hockey Camps! This year’s Holiday Hockey Camp lineup will strictly feature Competitive & Recreational Specialty Clinics. Each Specialty Clinic will focus on a specific skill or area of skills each player can use to build up their overall game! Our clinics will offer players a premium development experience, all at the region’s best facilities with experienced on-ice instructors.

We understand the holiday’s are a busy time for all so we’ve given flexibility to our participants who can choose to attend 1, 2 or all 3 offered specialty clinic sessions listed below. We remain dedicated to being your best choice for development during the holidays! Please see below for more information on each clinic, as well as dates and times.

RECREATIONAL CLINICS

COMPETITIVE CLINICS

NOTE– Each camp duration above includes a 10 minute resurfacing time.

Specialty Clinic Descriptions

Essential Defensive Skills (Recreational): The ability for a defenseman or defensive forward to retrieve pucks, control the puck while skating backwards, and always shooting with a purpose, is integral to their position. This specialty session will increase a players comfortability with these skills and provide elite tips and suggestions to improve their overall defensive game. The primary skills that will be focused on include:

• Offensive and defensive retrievals
• Getting off the walls fast
• Situational awareness when retrieving (Shoulder checks, head on a swivel)
• Timing / maintaining footspeed
• Shooting with eyes up and with a purpose
• Skating backwards while controlling a puck

Angling & Stick Checking (Recreational): No matter what level of hockey you play, one of the greatest skills to perfect is angling. Being able to angle and separate opponents from puck is key if you’re a player who wants to bring your game to the next level. The primary skills that will be focused on include:

• Proper angling techniques & the purpose of angling
• Matching the speed of the puck carrier
• Understanding closing the gap
• Limiting time and space D
• Driving through the hands and stick for separation

In-Tight Scoring (Recreational & Competitive): Scoring goals only becomes more difficult as you progress through the ranks. Most goals are scored within the blue paint or within small windows in the slot. This session will focus on increasing scoring IQ close to the net, adjusting positioning for rebounds, and working on quick release shooting. The following are the primary skills that will be focused on:

• Scoring in-tight to the net both above and below the goal line
• Wraparounds
• Quick release shooting in the slot
• Understanding reads / goalie positioning
• Adjusting body & stick positioning when recovering rebounds
• Creating space around the net to increase scoring chances
• Locating and settling bouncing pucks

Dominant Defender (Competitive): Develop into a dominant defender with this program designed specifically for defensemen! This specialty session will increase the poise and comfortability of a defenseman through on ice instruction tailored toward giving elite tips and suggestions to improve a defenseman’s game. Instruction will be delivered in both small groups and full ice settings. High-repetition station work, small area games and end-zone (defensive and offensive) game-situational drills will all be utilized throughout the program. The following are the primary skills that will be focused on:

• Key Skills of backwards skating (quick starts, crossunders and speed control)
• Effectively using pivots, transitions, lateral mobility, and evasive maneuvers at game speed
• Offensive and defensive retrievals and using deception when retrieving
• Getting off the walls fast
• Importance of establishing mid-ice to improve passing & shot angles
• Increasing situational awareness and awareness when making plays under pressure (Using Shoulder checks, head on a swivel)
• Timing / Maintaining footspeed

Advanced Scoring (Competitive): Scoring goals only becomes more difficult as you progress through the ranks. Most goals are scored within the blue paint or within small windows in the slot. This session will focus on increasing scoring IQ close to the net, adjusting positioning for rebounds, and working on quick release shooting. The following are the primary skills that will be focused on:

Camp Locations

West-end camps take place at the Bell Sensplex, unless otherwise indicated (Cavanagh Sensplex = CSP). East-end camps take place at the Richcraft Sensplex.
