The Ottawa Senators Summer Hockey camp is excited to introduce our limited edition Competitive Defensive Skills Camp built by Royal Military College (RMC) 10+ year program veteran and Assistant Coach Gary “Gino” Marino. Coach Marino, along with the Ottawa Senators Hockey Programs elite development coaches will provide all of the on-ice instruction and coaching to ensure each player is in top form prior to tryouts.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Our Competitive Defensive Skills Camp is a premier defense hockey camp that is committed to teaching players of all ages the finer points of defensive hockey. We offer a training program that will insure that you will gain superior skills and knowledge that will be crucial to your future success, taking your defensive game to “THE NEXT STEP”. This is done by providing an expansive drill instruction package Which includes building and working on:

  • Defensive skating techniques
  • Body position
  • Stick tactics
  • Shooting
  • Puck control and zone exits

High intensity on ice instruction and low player to instructor ratios, provides instruction that will ensure a competitive edge helping to maximize defensive potential.

Skill RequirementsTo protect the competitive nature of this camp, all registrations are subject to review. This camp is restricted to players who ONLY played competitive hockey during the 2022-23 season.

Please note that we will have at least one bilingual instructor with each camp group at the Richcraft Sensplex to accommodate all participants. The Richcraft camp (July 31 – August 4) will be lead by our top OSHP Instructors in the absence of Coach Marino.

OUR COACHES

Gary “Gino” Marino

For the past three seasons, Gary has been in his second stint as the Assistant Coach of the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) Paladins of the OUA (U-Sports), with his first stint spanning from 2009 – 2017. In between those years, Gary was a head coach at the U10 AAA, U13 AAA, and U14 levels. In addition to his coaching experience, Gary is a certified Hockey Canada High-Performance (HP1) coach and has occupied the role of Player and Coach Development Coordinator (2012-2014) for the Belleville District Girls Minor Hockey Association.

Jake Bullen

Hailing from Porter’s Lake, Nova Scotia, Jake is the current Head of Hockey Development for the Ottawa Senators Hockey Programs; responsible for planning and leading ice sessions for thousands of players from the beginner to elite levels. He is also in charge of training and developing OSHP instructional staff. Jake works primarily with competitive and elite athletes in our high performance programs, including HPP, SSHD AAA, and other highly touted OSHP development programs. Jake is also the Head Skills Coach for Sens Elite Development which oversees the Myers Automotive AAA Hockey Development Program; operating weekly throughout the 22-23 season at the Bell Sensplex.

Marcus Quinlin

Marcus is an HP1 Certified hockey coach, who has recently joined the Ottawa Senators Hockey Programs (OSHP) as a Head Hockey Instructor. Marcus is from Niagara Falls, where he was a Head Coach within the southern Tier Admirals organization – having recently coached their U18 AAA and U15 AAA teams this past season. Marcus is a former U-Sports hockey player, playing for the Royal Military College of Canada. Marcus is also a former OHL Draft pick, being selected by the Windsor Spitfires in the 2007 Draft.

Jason Seed

Jason has recently joined the Ottawa Senators Hockey Programs (OSHP) as a Head Hockey Instructor. Jason is from Ottawa, and is currently playing professional hockey for Cortina, in the Alps Hockey League (Italy). Upon their playoff completion, Jason will be joining the SSHD AAA staff. Jason has a lot of hockey experience, including winning a Memorial Cup with the Saint John Sea Dogs, and playing in the national Jr. A championship, the RBC Cup with, the Summerside Western Capitals. Jason was also a member of the Carleton Ravens Men’s Hockey team from 2013 -2017. Jason has also played professional hockey in France & Poland, before going to Italy.
